(Saint-Ubalde) A 9-year-old girl is between life and death after an accident in the snow, in a wood behind a residence in Saint-Ubalde, in the MRC of Portneuf.

The victim was building a snow fort with another girl, this one 7 years old, when the construction collapsed on top of them. The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was called to the scene around 2:40 p.m., along with paramedics and firefighters.

First responders “had to perform resuscitation maneuvers” on the nine-year-old child, who “is currently in critical condition,” said SQ spokesperson Béatrice Dorsainville.

The seven-year-old girl was also injured, but there are no fears for her life.

“We have an investigator and the forensic identification service coming to the scene to analyze the scene,” Ms. Dorsainville added. She could not immediately clarify whether the children were accompanied by an adult at the event.
