DoorDash is purchasing automated meals prep firm Chowbotics to enlarge its own new meal offerings.
San Francisco-based DoorDash declared the purchase Monday.
Hayward, California-based Chowbotics, that has been founded seven decades back, creates a refrigerator-sized robot named Sally that could keep up to 22 prepared components. Sally utilizes these ingredients to create up to 65 salads, bowls and other foods at one time.
Before this season, Chowbotics had marketed about 125 of its own $35,000 robots, largely for universities, medical facilities and grocery shops. However, the firm said earnings jumped through the pandemic as clients looked for touch-free tactics to dispense meals .
DoorDash stated Chowbotics’ robots can enable its own restaurant partners to give more varieties of foods without needing to expand their kitchen area. Other DoorDash retailers, such as convenience stores, may also use it to enlarge into new food.
DoorDash provides delivery from 390,000 retailers in the U.S., Canada and Australia and will be the food shipping market pioneer in the U.S.
DoorDash stated Chowbotics’ employees are currently DoorDash workers. But Chowbotics will still continue to function independently and has no plans to modify its title.
