Continuous rain, heavy rain, flooding: The DWD is expecting a “bombshell” this weekend. FOCUS online has prepared a checklist and tells you how you can best protect yourself from flooding.

The German Weather Service is warning of severe storms with up to 150 litres of rain, particularly in the south and southeast of the country. The extreme rain is most likely to hit Bavaria and Saxony, according to meteorologist Jan Schenk from “The Weather Channel”.

“The big bombshell will come this weekend, exactly eleven years after the devastating floods in parts of Bavaria,” says meteorologist Marcel Schmid in Offenbach.

However, the DWD and “The Weather Channel” also point to uncertainties in the forecasts. They plan to issue concrete warnings on Thursday evening or Friday morning at the latest.

To get through the heavy rain safely, FOCUS online has put together a checklist for you to help you prepare your house, car and your digital tools.

The basic rule is: stay calm and act prudently. Depending on where you are, you should consider the following points.

Secure windows and doors:

Securing the garden:

Check basement and roof:

Provide emergency equipment:

Protect electronic devices:

Is there a risk of flooding in your area:

It’s never a bad idea to have supplies in the house for a few days, especially if you have children to look after. Ideally, you should have enough food and drinking water on hand. Good to know: If there is flooding, you won’t be able to use tap water for days; you’ll have to boil it. That’s why a camping stove isn’t a bad investment.
