According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LA 3), the Benton Road Overpass (LA 3), is now closed. This is due to inclement weather.
Due to hazardous driving conditions caused winter storm, both the northbound and southbound lanes on I-49 Urban at LA 526 were closed earlier in afternoon.
This is in addition to I-220 North and I-49 North which were both closed at 2:45 p.m. on Thursday. LA DOTD states that roads will be closed until roads and bridges can be deemed safe. All vehicles must detour.
Schools in the area have announced Friday closures due to freezing rain and sleet causing icy roads. Webster schools will be virtual.
LSU Shreveport also announced that they will be closing their campus on Thursday, April 26, due to severe weather conditions.
The Winter Weather Advisory has been extended to 9 p.m. on Thursday. Winter precipitation, mainly sleet, could continue beyond sunset along the I-20 corridor. The Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect until 6 pm, with accumulations at their highest north and near I-30.
