One of the largest amounts of heroin in Berlin in recent years has been discovered by the criminal police. Drug investigators from the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) found more than 33 kilograms of the drug with an estimated sales value of several million euros during a search in Alt-Treptow on Tuesday, the police said on Wednesday.

In the ground floor apartment and in the basement of an apartment building, the police also found around 150 grams of cocaine and six live firearms in addition to the heroin. A 33-year-old man who was in Berlin illegally was arrested. A special task force (SEK) was also involved in the search on Harzer Strasse on the border with Neukölln.

In 2016, the Berlin police caught a drug dealer gang and seized a record amount of 80 kilograms of heroin worth around three million euros. The heroin was hidden in holdalls and what appeared to be rolls of plastic film that were in a car. According to the police at the time, this was the largest amount of the drug found in Berlin to date.
