You said “yes”: Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner and his partner Franca Lehfeldt got married in a civil ceremony on Sylt on Thursday. At around 5:30 p.m., the couple stepped in front of the Sylt Museum, where guests were already waiting to throw flower petals at Lindner and Lehfeldt. The date for the civil marriage should have been chosen deliberately. According to various media reports, Lindner and Lehfeldt met on July 7, 2018.
After the wedding kiss, the FDP politician and the journalist went through the museum’s gate, which was made from a whale’s jawbone, onto the street to their car. They waved to the numerous curious onlookers and journalists who had been waiting for the couple. Lindner wore a light blue suit, Lehfeldt a cream-colored, off-the-shoulder jumpsuit with a tight top.
Hours earlier, numerous curious people had gathered on the street and in the garden in front of the museum at around 17 degrees and with a lot of wind. The museum was open until late noon, after which a sign was hung on the door – visiting the museum was temporarily restricted due to a wedding.
Those who were still on the premises were asked to leave. The street in front of it also had to be cleared. Police officers stood in front of the crowd of curious people, which consisted mainly of vacationers. Then it was time to wait. Several dozen of the now well over 100 people persevered.
After the bureaucratic part, the couple and the guests should stop off in the Kampen restaurant “Vogelkoje”, reports “Bild”. The traditional house was known as a “historic duck trapping site” until 1921, as the restaurant writes.

There should be a bachelorette party on Friday, as FDP circles reported to the dpa. However, it is not yet known where this bachelorette party will take place.
The church wedding will take place on Saturday, July 9th. The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Severin in Keitum was chosen as the location. The fashion designer Guido Maria Kretschmer is said to have said yes to his partner here in 2018.
Incidentally, with a documented roof truss construction in 1216, the small, picturesque church is considered the oldest sacred building in Schleswig-Holstein. If you want to visit the old walls from the comfort of your own couch, you can take a virtual tour of the church.
According to various media reports, the wedding celebration is to take place on Saturday evening in the “Zanzibar”. The location between the two towns of Rantum and Hörnum is considered a celebrity meeting place on the island.
By the way, a live cam on the restaurant’s website sends current pictures of the beach section. However, it remains questionable whether the camera will also transmit live images on said Saturday.
As the dpa reports, high-ranking politicians such as Chancellor Olaf Scholz should be on the guest list. According to “Bild” information, Lindner’s party colleagues Marco Buschmann (Federal Minister of Justice) and Wolfgang Kubicki (FDP Deputy Head) should also be among the guests below. The “Hamburger Abendblatt”, on the other hand, reports that the two Green politicians: Robert Habeck (Minister of Economic Affairs) and Annalena Baerbock (Foreign Minister) and CDU leader Friedrich Merz should also be among the wedding guests.
Christian Lindner, Franca Lehfeldt and their guests are to be accommodated at Severin’s Resort
In addition to the top-class invited guests, non-invited guests have also announced themselves. Since the nationwide €9 ticket was introduced, a few punks have taken Westerland by storm and made themselves comfortable in the pedestrian zone.
The city of Sylt reacted promptly with structural measures and closed off the Wilhelminen fountain with a fence. Previously, some of the punks had misappropriated the facility for bathing.
Because Lindner’s wedding is another major event on the island of Sylt, social networks are increasingly calling for another hijacking of the celebrity island. For example, the Twitter user “dosenalf” took over the organization of the wedding invitations for Christian Lindner without being asked: “I just spoke to my brother @c_lindner. He didn’t have some addresses ready and then all the stress… So if you didn’t get an invitation, please come anyway (applies to everyone!)”
Other users also called for people to come to “Sansibar” on Saturday evening to personally congratulate Christian Lindner and his newlywed wife.

Because high-ranking politicians such as the Federal Chancellor will also be present at the wedding, the security measures on the island have been increased enormously, as reported by the Schleswig-Holsteinische Zeitungsverlag (SHZ). Many Twitter users complain that the taxpayer ultimately has to pay for the event’s massive security measures.
Additionally, critics argue that such a pompous wedding is inappropriate given rising food and energy prices. On the one hand, if Chancellor Scholz puts the citizens in the mood for rising prices and the bridegroom Lindner himself speaks of an economic crisis that means “three to four, maybe five years of shortages”, then a glamorous wedding might be “the wrong signal”, as Stephan the Tagesspiegel editor says -Andreas Casdorff remarked.
Lindner’s party colleague Marco Buschmann, on the other hand, tweeted that a wedding was “something wonderful”. “Anyone who takes offense at this should look for a therapist!” wrote the Federal Minister of Justice, promptly receiving criticism.
The stand-up comedian Ilka Bessin, better known as “Cindy from Marzahn”, on the other hand, suggested in an Instagram comment that the Lindner wedding as a private event could also be financed privately. In the July 5 post, she complained that the security forces had to be paid for “from our taxpayers’ money.” It goes on to say: “I’m not invited either. If I celebrate my birthday now, will he also come and open the door?”
