(Kyiv) Russian Shahed-136/131 drones hit the Odessa region overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday without causing any casualties, local military authorities said.

“ Thanks to the successful work of our defense forces, most of the enemy drones were destroyed, but unfortunately a public building was hit ”, the Odessa district military administration said in a statement on Wednesday, adding that no victim was to be deplored in the immediate future.

Measures were taken to contain the fires caused by these attacks and the state emergency services were deployed, according to the same source.

“10 of the 12 “Shahed-136/131″ suicide drones were destroyed by the soldiers of the Odessa anti-aircraft missile brigade”, detailed the commander of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Mykola Oleshchuk.

Shahed-136 drones are made in Iran and can carry an explosive charge of 35 to 50 kilograms. They are regularly used by Russian forces against Ukraine.

“During the past day, the enemy launched 4 missiles and (carried out) 60 airstrikes” in particular, injuring the civilian population, said the Ukrainian army.

Odessa was a favorite vacation destination for many Ukrainians and Russians before the outbreak of the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the conflict, Odessa has been repeatedly bombarded by Russian forces.

In January, UNESCO placed the historic center of Odessa on the list of World Heritage in Danger.
