Under any pretext, Russia began the war

History 16/01/20 Under any pretext, Russia began the war,

War waged by Russia throughout its history has always been a war for justice – in the sense of the word, which is understood specific government. At the same time Russian is not always become the victims of the attack – reasons for war (casus belli) were very different.

Livonian war

the longest of the Russian wars of the XVI century, which lasted from 1558 to 1583 years, was preceded by attempts to negotiate through diplomatic channels.

“the Last straw that broke the patience of Ivan the terrible, began the talks held in Moscow in December 1557 between the Livonian ambassadors and represented the Russian side by okolnichy A. F. Adasheva and clerk I. M. Viskovaty,” notes historian Vitaly Pensky.

under the Treaty of 1554, the Baltic knights were obliged to pay Russia a large tribute, however, was trying to reduce its amount. Angered by their obstinacy, the king set before his generals the task to punish the Livonians for “failure to correct”. The initial hike to “the master of the Livonian and all the land of the Livonian” was intended as a mere RAID for the purpose of demonstration of force. Only with time the Russians began to direct conquest of the country.

First world war

Russia’s Entry into the First world war was predetermined by traditional patronage of the “brotherly people” of Serbia. After the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo broke out of the July crisis. Russia supported Serbia, which issued an ultimatum to Austria-Hungary. July 28, Vienna declared war on Belgrade, and after that, Russia began mobilization.

“Internally, because of changing conditions, to take the necessary precautions, We are commanded to bring the army and Navy on a war footing, but, redeeming by the blood and treasure of Our subjects, exerted all efforts for a peaceful outcome of the negotiations that had begun”, explained this step of the Emperor Nicholas II in its manifest.

Using mobilization as a pretext, an ally of Austria by the German Kaiser Wilhelm II on 1 August declared war on Russia.

the Soviet-Finnish war

the Winter war of 1939-1940 it began with Miniscule incident – the shelling of a Soviet village of Maynila on the Karelian isthmus. TASS wrote:

“on November 26 at 15 hours and 45 minutes, our troops, located a kilometer North-West Mainly were suddenly bombarded by Finnish artillery fire. The Finns only made 7 gun shots. Killed 3 soldier, 1 Junior commander and 1 Lieutenant”.

Some of today’s historians believe that in reality the attack was the work of the NKVD. In response to “blatant provocation of the Finnish military” Molotov demanded from the Finns, so they moved troops to 20-25 kilometers from the border. Finland disagreed, proposing to produce a mutual withdrawal of troops. November 28, the Soviet side has denounced the non-aggression Pact with Finland, and after 2 days began the offensive of the red Army.

War in Afghanistan

sending a “limited contingent of troops” in Afghanistan Soviet leaders justified the “international duty”. For the first time this phrase appeared in the 1960-ies as the development of the ideas of proletarian internationalism. “Defense of socialism is the highest internationalist duty” — so, for example, called the policy an article in the newspaper “Pravda” published in the midst of the events in Czechoslovakia in 1968. In practice, any government, declared himself a socialist, could in the case of the armed “counter-revolution” count on military assistance of the Soviet bloc, which happened in Afghanistan.

the War with Georgia in 2008

the Conflict with Georgia, which began on 8 August 2008, President Dmitry Medvedev dubbed “force the aggressor to peace.” In world practice, “coercion to peace” is regarded as a peacekeeping operation that is conducted by a third party, not vovlechenAya in the conflict, and the sanctions of the UN security Council. In the case of the Georgian-Ossetian conflict actual interest was determined by the fact that many residents of South Ossetia had Russian passports. Therefore, the international community (e.g. the English Wikipedia) considers the events of August 2008 as a full-fledged Russian-Georgian war.
