For the first time in four years, a big bike race will take place in Berlin on Sunday. The “Velocity” race started in the morning with several thousand participants. The longer of the two routes leads over 90 kilometers through the city, on the shorter one the participants drive a 60-kilometer round trip. The starting point and destination is the Straße des 17. Juni.

Many routes in Berlin are closed around the race, some until Tuesday.

The following streets have been closed to traffic since early morning on Sunday: Ernst-Reuter-Platz, Otto-Suhr-Allee, Spandauer Damm, Charlottenburger Chaussee, Teltower Straße, Havelchaussee, Kronprinzessinnenweg, Hüttenweg, Onkel-Tom-Straße, Argentinische Allee, Saargemünder Strasse, Löhleinstrasse, Thielallee, Queen-Luise-Strasse, Grunewaldstrasse, Albrechtstrasse, Steglitzer Damm, Attilastrasse, Manteuffelstrasse, Boelckestrasse, Katzbachstrasse, Yorckstrasse, Möckernstrasse, Stresemannstrasse, Anhalter Strasse, Wilhelmstrasse, Kochstrasse, Rudi-Dutschke-Strasse, Oranienstrasse, Prinzenstrasse , Heinrich-Heine-Strasse, Köpenicker Strasse, Michaelkirchstrasse, At the Michaelbrücke, Lichtenberger Strasse, Strausberger Platz, Karl-Marx-Allee, Alexanderstrasse, Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse, Torstrasse, Tucholskystrasse, Ziegelstrasse, Friedrichstrasse, Reinhardtstrasse, Kapelle Ufer, Rahel -Hirsch-Strasse, Alt-Moabit, Lüneburger Strasse, Paulstrasse and Spreeweg.

Altonaer Strasse, Levetzowstrasse, Gotzkowskystrasse, Alt-Moabit, Beusselstrasse, Saatwinkler Damm, Gartenfelder Strasse and Bernauer Strasse up to the waterworks will also be closed for the extended route.

The streets are to be gradually reopened to traffic by 1:15 p.m.
