In May, 245 people died in traffic accidents nationwide. Compared to the same month of the previous year, which was affected by the corona pandemic, this means an increase of 45, as the Federal Statistical Office reported on Monday in Wiesbaden.
At the same time, 35,100 people were injured in accidents in May. That represented an increase of about 10,200 or 41 percent compared to May 2020.
According to the statistics office, the numbers are roughly back to the level of May 2019 – the last month of comparison before the outbreak of the corona pandemic. At that time there had been one fatality and 2100 fewer accidents
