(Quebec) The Liberal opposition makes its mea culpa, after trying to delete the word “woman” in a bill.

Last week, during the study of Bill 12 on the reform of family law, Liberal MP André Albert Morin tried to have the term “surrogate woman” replaced by “carrier” in order to be more inclusive, based on new gender realities.

However, the text of the bill already mentions the terms “woman or carrier” several times.

In a scrum on Tuesday morning, interim Liberal leader Marc Tanguay explained that the decision to table this amendment had been made in caucus, but he acknowledged that it had caused an outcry.

He assured that his party did not want to undermine gender equality.

In his words, if it had to be done again, the party would no longer venture into this avenue.
