The volunteer firefighter Martina Witte lives in Friedrichshain and works in the insurance industry. Four years ago – at the age of 52 – she started with the volunteer fire brigade.

I was interested for years, but somehow other things were always more important. I am the oldest of the women I have met in the volunteer fire department. During my apprenticeship, they always called me “Mama”.
