Martial law as a propaganda weapon? No doubt. Both sides want to benefit from it. But there is one difference: the Russians want to fabricate a justification for their war of aggression with a tribunal. The Azov soldiers are supposed to be key witnesses and culprits in one – alleged “Nazis” who committed genocide against Russians and whom Russia put a stop to with the war. But the Ukrainians are concerned with punishing obvious war crimes. Carrying out a fair trial while the military conflict is still in progress hardly seems possible. Those who really seek justice should wait for the time after the war.
