The Lachine hospital was in confinement for a few hours Thursday afternoon. The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) said a “money code” was triggered after an armed man was seen not far from the Montreal establishment.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) has confirmed that no one was seen with a firearm inside the hospital.

Around 1:30 p.m., a call was made to 911 to report the possible presence of an armed man on 13th Avenue near Provost Street, not far from the health facility.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the police carried out checks and did not locate anyone,” said SPVM spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant. As a preventive measure, the Lachine Hospital and the CHSLD Camille Lefebvre are placed in confinement, and the public is asked to avoid going there.

No gunshots were reported. The police operation is still ongoing.

“The SPVM continues its research and does not take risks in this type of event,” said Mr. Brabant.

Shortly before 4 p.m., “the silver code at Lachine Hospital and CHSLD Camille-Lefebvre ended,” the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) announced.
