One person was injured in a fire in the Spandau district of Staaken on Wednesday evening. As the fire brigade announced on Thursday morning, the fire broke out in several basement shacks of an eight-story apartment building on Maulbeerallee.

Alerted emergency services extinguished the fire and checked 34 apartments because of the heavy smoke. One person was treated on site by emergency services.

According to the fire department, it is still unclear how the fire started. A police fire department took over the investigation. The fire brigade could not say anything about the sex and age of the injured person in the morning.

According to the information, the Berlin fire brigade was on site with 92 emergency services for two hours. At the same time, a fire broke out in a high-rise building in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen, which the fire brigade was busy with.

Since April 2021, there have been repeated arson attacks in Staaken, often affecting cellars in the Obstallee housing estate. According to the police, more than 80 cases are checked to see whether they go to the same people.

Among other things, the investigators are targeting a gang of young people – but all efforts to convict them have so far been unsuccessful.
