(Quebec) MNA for Laviolette–Saint-Maurice Marie-Louise Tardif will not face any charges following a police investigation. She had withdrawn from the caucus of the Coalition avenir Québec.

“I just learned that. But indeed, if there are no charges, she will probably be reinstated, ”said Prime Minister François Legault on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Ms. Tardif was investigated by the Sûreté du Québec’s Major Crimes Division for threats she allegedly made in a courtroom.

According to the daily Le Nouvelliste, the member for Laviolette–Saint-Maurice allegedly threatened an ex-employee in the middle of the courtroom.

The media reported that Ms. Tardif would have arrested, during a hearing before the Small Claims Division of the Court of Quebec, a witness who corroborated the words of a former employee of the member who is suing her for wrongful dismissal.

Sylvie Guilbeau told the media that Marie-Louise Tardif would have whispered to her “we are going to embark on your case”. She then allegedly insulted Ms. Guilbeau, and even threatened to have her arrested by the police. Ms. Guilbeau then filed a complaint with the Sûreté du Québec.

These revelations had consequences. Ms. Tardif announced the following week that she was withdrawing from the caucus of the Coalition avenir Québec until the police shed light on these allegations of threats.

Before making a final decision on reinstatement, the Prime Minister will “discuss” it with the CAQ caucus. “Was that a real threat?” We judged that at the criminal level, it was not, ”said Mr. Legault.

For his part, the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions explains his decision by affirming that he did not have “the conviction of a reasonable prospect of conviction in view of the evidence gathered”, affirmed Me Audrey Roy-Cloutier, prosecutor Acting Deputy Chief of Corporate Communications.
