(Saint-Ubalde) A 9-year-old girl died after the snow fort she was building with a friend collapsed on them in a wood behind a residence in Saint-Ubalde, in the MRC of Portneuf, on Sunday.

The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was called to the scene around 2:40 p.m., along with paramedics and firefighters.

The first responders “had to perform resuscitation maneuvers” with the nine-year-old child, who “is currently in critical condition”, said SQ spokesperson Béatrice Dorsainville earlier in the evening.

The other girl, aged seven, was also injured, but there is no fear for her life.

“We have an investigator and the forensic identification service coming to the scene to analyze the scene,” Ms. Dorsainville added. She could not immediately clarify whether the children were accompanied by an adult at the event.
