The organizers spoke of around 4000 participants. According to the police, the demonstration on Saturday afternoon passed without incident.
The alliance “Civil Times Turning” had called for the action. Instead, it wants to spend the additional 100 billion euros earmarked for the Bundeswehr on expanding the welfare state.
It was said that the money should be used to permanently increase spending on social affairs, health, education, culture and the climate.
The demonstration began in the afternoon on Bebelplatz in Berlin-Mitte and was to end there in the evening with a party. (dpa)
