So far there have been more than 100 criminal offenses in the Berlin vaccination centers. This was announced by the police of the German Press Agency. The investigators documented cases of stolen mobile phones, wallets and clothing, for example in the vaccination centers at the former Tegel Airport, at the Velodrome or at the Erika Hess Ice Stadium. A total of 59 criminal offenses were recorded at these three locations in the period from January 1, 2021 to May 24 of this year.

According to the police, 26 criminal offenses were registered around the Messe Berlin vaccination center. These included stolen cash and identity documents, four traffic accidents with property damage and one physical injury.

At the Arena Berlin and Linden-Center vaccination centers (a total of 28 criminal offences), the majority of the offenses in the period from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 took place in the surrounding area. “Due to the crowds and large number of vehicles […] there was a small number of coercion, insults and (mutual) bodily harm,” the police said.

In one case, an employee cupboard was also broken into, and there were ten other cases of theft/embezzlement, in which, for example, two ID cards, three wallets or two bicycles were stolen.

Four criminal offenses were recorded at the Tempelhofer Damm vaccination center in the period from March to May last year. These included fraud, property damage, embezzlement and a stolen donation box.

A final statement about the respective motives could not be made, the police said. “Due to the loot obtained, a classic intention to enrich oneself can be assumed for some property crimes.” (dpa)
