(Montmagny) A woman in her thirties lost her life after being pulled from her vehicle which found itself submerged in the Rivière du Sud, in Montmagny, in Chaudière-Appalaches, Friday noon.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was notified around 12:30 p.m. that a vehicle had ended its journey in the waters of the river, in the Chemin des Cascades sector, after having left the road.
The police and firefighters went to the scene, and the woman who was in the vehicle was able to be extricated from the passenger compartment. She was taken care of by paramedics and was transported in critical condition to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
In the middle of the afternoon, the vehicle was being towed, while the police tried to understand the circumstances that led to this exit from the road.
The SQ confirmed that the victim was alone in the car at the time of the event, after a search was carried out in the area to ensure that there were no other occupants.
Watercraft and divers participated in the search operations.
At the end of the day, the provincial police force was not yet able to advance on the potential causes of the exit from the road. The investigation is continuing.
