There will be restrictions on the U1, U2 and U3 lines until November due to construction work at the Gleisdreieck underground station. The Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) are temporarily reactivating the U12, which has already been used for construction work in the past. The BVG combines the underground lines U1 and U2 in sections.

As the transport company announced, the first construction phase will start next Monday, August 15th, and thus in the last week of the holiday: Construction will continue on the U2 line until September 18th.

During this time, the U2 only runs between Pankow and Gleisdreieck, the U1 is discontinued. The U12, which was then re-established, runs as an alternative between Warschauer Straße via Gleisdreieck – where the U1 would also normally run – and on to Ruhleben.

U2 passengers change at the Gleisdreieck U-Bahn station, U1 passengers between Wittenbergplatz and Uhlandstraße can switch to the M19 and M29 buses.

The U3 runs unchanged between Warschauer Straße and Krumme Lanke. According to the BVG, only the Bülowstraße underground station will be closed in the first construction phase, but passengers can switch to the nearby Kurfürstenstraße underground station.

According to the BVG, the construction work will be paused between Monday, September 19 and Sunday, September 25: U2 and U3 will run as usual, the U1 only between Gleisdreieck and Warschauer Straße.

The second construction phase started on Monday, September 26th, and will continue until Thursday, October 27th: The U1, U2 and U3 will run as in the first construction phase, with the difference that the U2 runs every ten minutes between Gleisdreieck and Potsdamer Platz commutes. The trains then run between Pankow and Potsdamer Platz, if you want to travel from there in the direction of Gleisdreieck, you have to change to the shuttle service at Potsdamer Platz.

Immediately afterwards, the third construction phase will take place during the autumn holidays. According to the BVG, work will be carried out on the U1 and U3 tracks in the Gleisdreieck area from Friday, October 28th to Sunday, November 6th. The U2 then runs as usual between Pankow and Ruhleben. The U1 only runs between Warschauer Straße and Gleisdreieck, the U3 only between Nollendorfplatz and Krumme Lanke.

The BVG asks passengers to change to the U2 between Wittenbergplatz and Gleisdreieck. Meanwhile, no trains are stopping at the Kurfürstenstraße underground station – passengers can switch to the Bülowstraße station here.

After the end of the construction work, the U1 will be shortened for a while: until Thursday, December 22, the line will only run between Warschauer Straße and Gleisdreieck. To Wittenbergplatz, passengers can switch to the U2 and U3, continue towards Uhlandstraße on the M19 and M29.

According to the BVG, the background to the restrictions is the renovation of the sleepers on the elevated railway, a transfer track between U1 and U2 is also to be prepared and finally the interior renovation of the tunnel near Wittenbergplatz underground station is to be continued.
