CDU leader Friedrich Merz and his wife Charlotte came to Sylt with their private plane for the wedding of Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP). Merz himself was in the cockpit of the plane on Friday. He and his wife are on the guest list for the wedding celebration of Lindner and the journalist Franca Lehfeldt. VW CEO Herbert Diess also landed at the island’s airport.
Lindner (43) and Lehfeldt (33) get married on Saturday in a church on Sylt. On Thursday afternoon, Mayor Nikolas Häckel (independent) carried out the civil wedding in the Sylt Museum. According to media reports, the couple chose St. Severin’s Church in Keitum. It is one of Sylt’s landmarks with centuries of history. Afterwards there will be a big celebration in the “Sansibar” between Rantum and Hörnum on the North Sea beach of Sylt.
Numerous celebrities are said to be on the guest list – including Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).
The area around the Sylt Museum was cordoned off by the police for the civil wedding on Thursday. Interested viewers only got to see the couple when they exited the building and got into a car. There was no official information in advance about the timing of the three-day celebration and the individual locations. The North Frisian island is a popular holiday destination for celebrities and is also often chosen for weddings.
