A man died in Berlin-Mitte on Thursday evening after jumping from the Rathausbrücke into the Spree. As the Berlin police confirmed to the Tagesspiegel, the incident happened around 7:40 p.m.

Witnesses saw a man jump from the bridge at the Humboldt Forum into the Spree. According to the police, several people tried to save the man. A witness jumped into the water – unsuccessfully. The man went under. Divers from the Berlin fire brigade could only rescue him lifeless. Despite attempts at resuscitation, the man died on the spot.
