In addition to “Sopranos” and “Sex And The City”, among others, the brutal fantasy series “Game Of Thrones” is one of the best-known productions of the US broadcaster HBO, the content of which can be seen to a large extent on Sky in Germany. In 2019, “Game Of Thrones” ended after eight seasons – or not.

Since then, several new series have been in the works, all in author George R.R. Martin imagined, feudal-fantastic world play. The prequel “House Of The Dragon” starts on August 22, 2022, which takes place 200 years before the events of the main series and shows the conflicts in the house of the dragon ruler Targaryen.

Now, industry magazines Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter are reporting on a new project: a GoT sequel, in which actor Kit Harington reprises his role as brave knight Jon Snow.

The project is still at a very early stage. There’s a chance it will be canceled — in 2019, for example, HBO scrapped a prequel series starring Naomi Watts, despite the fact that a first multi-million dollar episode had already been filmed. But there should be a lot of interest in a sequel starring Kit Harington.

This is exactly where the new series should pick up. This also means that other popular characters such as Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) will return.

The potential Jon Snow series is just one of more than half a dozen potential new Game Of Thrones series currently in the works. A selection:

By no means all projects will actually go on the air. However, HBO has a great interest in expanding the successful brand.

The background is the competition with the streaming services Netflix and Disney

The following still applies: All major streaming services are trying to win and keep subscribers by expanding their most popular series brands. Netflix relies on “Bridgerton”, “Stranger Things” and “Squid Game”, Disney on Marvel and “Star Wars” series – and HBO tries it with “Game Of Thrones”.
