(Kirkland) An automobile fire that appears to have been started by a criminal hand was extinguished by firefighters early Wednesday morning in Kirkland, on the west island of Montreal, and caused no injuries.
The fire was reported shortly after 1 a.m. The car was parked on a property on rue Jacques-Chan, near the intersection of rue Château Kirkland, in an area where there are mainly single-family homes.
Firefighters from the Montreal Fire Department (SSIM) did not take long to neutralize the flames. Observing the scene afterwards, they found that an incendiary substance had probably been used to set the automobile on fire.
The firefighters therefore handed over the investigation to the arson squad of the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM). The vehicle was ordered to be towed so that it could be examined by investigators.
As of late Wednesday night, no arrests had been reported in connection with the case.
Later in the day, SPVM investigators were to try to find out if surveillance cameras in the area had been able to capture images that could help them solve the case.
