The group on Wednesday declared that it is shifting from black to teal because its principal residence uniform colour, which has been a significant portion of the uniform throughout the franchise’s success throughout its early decades.
“We have heard the fans clear and loud,” head gear manager Jimmy Luck said in a statement. “Since the only team in the NFL that conveys teal, we understand exactly what this colour means to our company, the 904 and our whole fanbase. Teal inspires great memories of a few of the franchise’s best moments. Making the change to teal as our chief uniform colour permits us to observe that history whilst kicking off a new age of Jaguars football”
Per the staff, the Jaguars have a 64-50 record (60-42 in home matches ) while wearing teal jerseys, that contains a victory in their first appearance on Monday Night Football and one of the best moments in franchise history: the 62-7 playoff success on the Miami Dolphins on Jan. 15, 2000, that turned out to be the last match for both Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino and head coach Jimmy Johnson. The Jaguars unofficially declared the colour change on Twitter on Tuesday by sending a succession of tweets where the initial letter of every tweet spelled out”teal is main ”
The group subsequently tweeted that Twitter figured out its own”mysterious message” and the group would create teal the principal colour if this tweet obtained 21,000 retweets. The tweet needed 23,000 retweets in 11:30 a.m. ET Wednesday.
The colour change is part of a rebranding of a franchise which has been among the league’s worst within the previous ten years. The Jaguars have lost 10 or more games in nine of their previous ten seasons and moved a franchise-worst 1-15 at 2020, which caused general director Dave Caldwell and head coach Doug Marrone being terminated.
The group is expected to choose Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
