In view of the accumulation of flight cancellations in Germany, the FDP is demanding that the federal police be used more for security checks. Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) must quickly bring more federal police to the airports “so that the queues at the security checks are reduced,” said parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr to the “Tagesspiegel”.

He also made another SPD minister responsible: It is up to Federal Labor Minister Hubertus Heil to ensure “that the ground service providers can hire people quickly and unbureaucratically for the checks at the security lanes – possibly with temporary contracts”.

New staff from abroad would also be conceivable. It would make sense for the federal states to carry out the necessary security checks by pooling all their strengths. “So that people can travel again without problems as soon as possible.”

Dürr emphasized: “It is absolutely understandable that after all the hardships of the corona pandemic, people have a great desire to travel. At the same time, the travel and transport industries in particular have suffered enormously from Corona”. Especially Berlin Airport BER there are always problems with long queues, missed or canceled flights. Most recently, around 20 flight cancellations occurred last Friday due to a warning strike by Easyjet cabin staff.
