After the atmospheric European Championships in Munich, Marion Schöne, head of the Olympic Park, massively criticized German and European sports associations. In an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”), the 59-year-old complained about the lack of willingness to cooperate and the lack of support.

Among others, Schöne named the German Athletics Association (DLV) and the German Canoe Association (DKV) as negative examples. European championships in various sports had taken place in Munich for eleven days up until Sunday.

“It was clear to us: This is a home event with nine sports, so there must be incredible support from the German associations,” said Schöne. The cooperation with some associations was “super”, “but with some the attitude was: You are the organizer, we can’t earn anything here, and now see how you do it.”

The organizers in Munich would have had to pay for everything related to advertising and promotion. “Every service that came from some German associations cost money,” criticized Schöne.

She and her colleagues were amazed “that our event did not even appear prominently on the websites of some associations”.
