Police and public prosecutors in Brandenburg are currently investigating in eleven cases, mainly due to billing fraud in rapid corona tests.

Two other cases had been handed over to the investigative authorities in Berlin and Hamburg, the Ministry of Justice in Potsdam said in response to a request from the AfD parliamentary group. The “Märkische Allgemeine” and “Der Prignitzer” reported first.

The investigations also concern money laundering and benefit fraud. Criminal offenses are researched in the police information system, it is said.

In part, the procedures are supplemented by manual evaluation of the investigation files of the public prosecutor’s office, so they do not claim to be complete.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the Berlin-Brandenburg Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians has so far informed the investigating authorities in one case of suspected billing fraud. It is about a damage of 110,000 euros, the highest amount so far.

The Neuruppin public prosecutor’s office is investigating in a procedure that it took over from the Rostock public prosecutor’s office in December 2021 and which goes back to a complaint by the Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians. All other cases only became pending with the Brandenburg law enforcement authorities this year.
