Interferon-beta seems to be a new beacon of hope in corona therapy. In combination with antiviral drugs, the signaling substance can fight the virus very efficiently under laboratory conditions, as the “FAZ” reports.

A research team from the Universities of Frankfurt and Kent has investigated how well the active ingredients nirmatrelvir (the active ingredient in Paxlovid), molnupiravir, remdesivir and aprotinin can switch off the Sars-CoV-2 virus in cell cultures in combination with the administration of Betaferon.

The effectiveness against the Delta and Omikron variants was examined in each case. Only the combination with remdesivir showed a less efficient effectiveness. All other three active ingredients were clinically tested in the study.
