A cyclist who was seriously injured in an accident with a car in Berlin died in the hospital. According to the police on Saturday, the 81-year-old is the twelfth person to have died in a traffic accident this year in the capital.

The man was on Thursday, accompanied by his 71-year-old wife, on the cycle path in the outskirts of Malchow on the federal highway 2 in the direction of Lindenberg in Brandenburg.

The 81-year-old is said to have left the cycle path to turn left onto Am Luchgraben street. According to the information, he was hit by the car of a 43-year-old who was traveling in the same direction.

The cyclist suffered head and torso injuries from the impact and fall. A rescue helicopter took him to a hospital, where he died on Friday. (dpa)
