Federal police officers in North Rhine-Westphalia made a chance find on the A4 motorway near Aachen. According to information provided on Monday, an officer in pursuit of a suspect discovered a well-camouflaged cannabis plantation of about 30 square meters on Saturday.

The plantation was only accessible from the highway, the plants on it were partially ready for harvest.

The German-Dutch patrol came across the plantation because of what appeared to be a breakdown vehicle that stopped on the hard shoulder. They included two brothers, aged 53 and 56, one of whom fled when police arrived. The second man was arrested at the scene.

An officer pursued the fugitive. He threw away two plastic bags that contained water canisters. According to the police, these were probably used to water the plants, some of which were two meters high.
