Timo Werner’s comeback goal didn’t help RB Leipzig to their first win of the season in the Bundesliga either. The national striker scored the lead on his return in the home game on Saturday against 1. FC Köln (36th minute), but in the end the Saxons had to settle for a 2-2 (1-1) deficit when they were outnumbered. The cup winner has only two points after two games.

Champions League starter Bayer Leverkusen suffered a second setback with the disappointing 1: 2 (1: 1) against relegation candidate FC Augsburg. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim got the first three points thanks to a hard-fought 3-2 (2-2) win over VfL Bochum. Werder Bremen came late in the first home game after promotion against VfB Stuttgart to a 2: 2 (1: 1). In the evening, FC Schalke 04 also got their first point after being promoted again. It was 2-2 (1-0) against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Marvin Schwäbe helped a lot with Werner’s goal. The FC goalkeeper let the ball slip after an actually harmless long-range shot by the attacker changed from Chelsea. In Florian Dietz (40th), the striker, who is to replace Anthony Modeste, who has moved to Borussia Dortmund, provided the Cologne equalizer.

RB was outnumbered for a half after the red card because of an assault by Dominik Szoboszlai (45.1). Nevertheless, Christopher Nkunku managed to make it 2-1 (56th), before an own goal by Josko Gvardiol (72nd) marked the final score.

In Bremen, the hosts took the initiative from the start and deservedly took the lead through Niclas Füllkrug (4th). However, Stuttgart struck back through Wataru Endo (38′) and Silas (77′). New signing Oliver Burke equalized for Bremen in added time (5/90).

Leverkusen, with substitute goalkeeper Andrej Lunew replacing Lukas Hrádecký, who was suspended, slept through the early stages and fell behind with a goal from Augsburg’s Fredrik Jensen (15′). Charles Aranguiz (43′) equalized before the break, but André Hahn scored to make it 2-1 (82′) for FCA.

A lively game developed in Sinsheim right from the start. The 2-0 lead of Bochum thanks to a double strike from Simon Zoller (10th and 13th) turned Hoffenheim through goals from Christoph Baumgartner (15th), Ozan Kabak (23rd) and Munas Dabbur (88th). TSG professional Andrej Kramaric missed a penalty after an hour.
