Cincinnati rose to No. Georgia was ranked 2nd in the Associated Press college football poll on Sunday. This is the first time that a team outside of the traditional power conferences has been ranked so high since 2010.
The unanimous No. 1 Bulldogs team remained. 1. With 63 first-place votes, Regions Bank presented the AP Top 25 to the Bulldogs. The Bearcats climbed a spot after Iowa’s defeat to Purdue.
The Hawkeyes fell nine spots to No. 11, while the Boilermakers moved up to No. 25 – snapping the longest current AP Poll drought for a Power Five school. In 2007, the Boilermakers were ranked for the first time.
Oklahoma is the No. 3rd, followed by Alabama and Ohio State.
The American Athletic Conference’s unbeaten Cincinnati achieved a new program record and became the first team to achieve No. TCU was the second-placed team from outside of a Power Five or BCS conference in 2010. It also finished second in 2010 as a Mountain West member.
Boise State was then a member the Western Athletic Conference and spent three weeks at No. 2, in 2010.
Oklahoma State has moved up to No. After beating Texas, Oklahoma State moved up to No. 8. It is now in the top 10 for only the second time since the start of the 2020 season.
Seven teams ranked in the top seven lost Saturday, five to unranked and the season total to 47.
The top-three teams have lost to unranked teams in each of the past three weeks. Stanford was the first team to lose, followed by Oregon. 3 Oregon on October 2.
Texas A&M defeated then-No. 1 Alabama was defeated at home by Iowa last week
All the losses suffered by ranked teams have shaken up the back half the rankings, and five new polling teams were added this week, one of which has never been in it before.
— No. After a road win against Arkansas, 19 Auburn (5-2), is back in the top 20.
— No. 20 Baylor (6-1), a convincing win against BYU, brought them back to the Top 25.
— No. No. 23 Pittsburgh (6-1), is ranked this season for the first-time. On Saturday, Quarterback Kenny Pickett led the Panthers to a 6-0 win over Virginia Tech. Although Pitt was briefly ranked in the top four of the six previous seasons, it has never been higher than 21st.
Kansas is now at the top of the list for longest current runs, but it’s not ranked among the Power Five schools. Purdue (4-2) has also entered the rankings. Last October 2009 was the last time that the Jayhawks were ranked. Next up are Vanderbilt, Oregon State, Rutgers and Illinois.
— No. 24-Texas-San Antonio (7–0) is unbeaten, and has been ranked for only the second time in the program’s history. Since 2012, the Roadrunners have been playing at the highest level in Division I football. They are the first Conference USA team in the Top 25 for this season.
After Saturday’s defeat by LSU, Florida was dropped from the rankings.
This leaves Florida without any ranked teams. It is a rare event in poll history. It was 2011 when the Sunshine State had six consecutive times without a single ranked player.
After a five-week run, Arkansas’ three-game losing streak has pushed the Razorbacks down the rankings.
After losing to Utah, Arizona State is back.
BYU was beaten by the University of Utah for the second week in a row and is now unranked for the first month.
Texas is back… to be unranked after the Longhorns took a double-digit lead in the second half for the second week.
