The National Institutes of Health stopped conducting invasive biomedical research with its hundreds of chimps in 2015. It has been slowly moving the animals to Chimp Haven, a sanctuary for chimps in Louisiana since then. Nell Greenfieldboyce, NPR science correspondent joins the program to discuss the NIH’s efforts to retire research chimps.
