According to a newspaper report, the government of US President Joe Biden is planning to support Taiwan with weapons worth around 1.1 billion dollars against the background of tensions with China. A corresponding proposal for the delivery of 60 anti-ship missiles and 100 air-to-air missiles is to be submitted to Congress, the newspaper Politico reported on Monday, citing three people familiar with the matter.

However, the focus will be on maintaining Taiwan’s current military systems and fulfilling existing orders — not on expanding the arms systems so as not to further fuel already heightened tensions with China, the report said. The US President’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
