It is about a total volume of around 75 billion euros: On Thursday, the Berlin House of Representatives will decide on the double budget for the years 2022 and 2023. It is the last planned plenary session of the state parliament before the summer break. Because of the extensive budget deliberations, it begins an hour earlier than usual, namely at 9 a.m.
The usual Current Hour and Question Time are cancelled. Instead, a so-called general debate is planned, which is usually the opportunity for the opposition to settle accounts with the state government.
The FDP has already accused Red-Green-Red of spending the additional tax revenue with full hands. The CDU criticized that it was not a serious budgetary policy to distribute more money according to the watering can principle.
Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD) is to comment on the budget law for the red-green-red Senate and is likely to resolutely reject criticism from the opposition. The Red-Green-Red factions have repeatedly emphasized that it is wrong to try to save oneself out of the crisis.
The debate should also be exciting because Giffey has had difficult days: On Sunday, she and Raed Saleh were only confirmed as state chairmen with a weak result of less than 60 percent at the SPD party conference.

The comrades then also spoke out in favor of the expropriation of real estate companies if the Senate’s commission of experts should show a way there – against Giffey’s will. The SPD also decided to change course in the dispute over the further construction of the A100 city motorway and called for a planning freeze.
After the general discussion, the budget plans of all departments are discussed. The overall budget is only voted on at the end. That is only to be expected in the evening hours, as a spokesman for the House of Representatives said. However, it cannot be ruled out that it could be midnight.
