A Berlin entrepreneur’s lawsuit against the AfD Thuringia for repayment of his party donation of 100,000 euros is not being heard. The lawsuit was withdrawn with a legal brief on Monday, said a spokesman for the Erfurt district court on Wednesday on request.

The step was justified by the fact that the plaintiff was exposed to an incalculable number of threats and insults, especially in digital and social media, due to the filing of the lawsuit and the associated public reporting. The district court canceled the hearing scheduled for November.

The entrepreneur had donated the large amount to the AfD Thuringia in February 2020. Last April, he sued her for repayment. “My donation was intended to improve democracy. However, after the AfD became increasingly undemocratic and anti-constitutional, it did not deserve my donation,” he explained to “Bild am Sonntag” at the time.

According to the court, the justification for the current withdrawal also states: “Furthermore, the public reaction and also that of the defendant shows that there is no willingness to recognize his actual donation goal, namely the promotion of democracy. Against this background, the plaintiff does not see himself in a position to maintain this situation any longer and is therefore refraining from the lawsuit in order to protect his family and himself.”
