There was a very special surprise in the mail for little Angela from Cologne when she started school. She received an autograph card from ex-Chancellor Angela Merkel by letter, as reported by the “FAZ”.
“For Angela” read the card, signed by her namesake. Little Angela was born in Cologne in 2015. Her family had fled from Syria to Germany shortly before.
In the same year there was a particularly strong flight towards Europe. The then Chancellor Merkel decided to keep the borders open and coined the phrase “We can do it”.
Angela’s family named their daughter after the Chancellor out of gratitude for their refugee policy, Father Ezzat told the “FAZ”. “She has helped a lot of people. She helped us,” he explained.
