After a sexually motivated attack on a 42-year-old woman in a stairwell, the accused confessed to the crime before the Berlin district court.
The 47-year-old said at the beginning of the trial on Thursday that he was deeply ashamed. He followed the unknown woman to an apartment building, grabbed her from behind by the neck and raped her. He then stole around 25 euros from her wallet and her mobile phone.
According to the indictment, the 47-year-old, who was without a permanent address at the time, attacked the woman last August in Berlin-Wittenau. He was arrested in early January and has been in detention ever since. The previously convicted man explained through his defense attorney that his “loneliness at the time” was no justification for the crime. “It’s unforgivable what I did to the woman,” said the 47-year-old.
