After joint research by scientific teams from the participating museums, 23 objects from the collection of the Ethnological Museum of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation will be brought to Namibia. The collection items such as historical everyday items, jewellery, tools and fashion were prepared for the journey in Berlin on Thursday.

According to the foundation, it is not an official return. However, it is not assumed that the objects will return to Germany.

The foundation was what the Foundation saw as “exemplary cooperation” with the Museums Association of Namibia. The project, funded by the Gerda Henkel Foundation, is based on cooperative provenance research with experts from Namibia in Berlin.

A scientific team from Namibia has been active in the Ethnological Museum since spring 2019. Together with those responsible in Berlin, they examined the history, significance and artistic potential of around 1,400 objects.
