Is it wonderful here! Greetings from the wild west of Berlin, from Tiefwerder with herons, buffalo, cranes, beavers, croaking and the nice pipits from “Little Venice”. Below you can see my photos from the trip for the new Tagesspiegel newsletter for Spandau, which I send you once a week – bundled and compact with lots of tips for your family, lots of dates and district news.

If you don’t come by car and just park everything, you’re also welcome in the idyll – there are no parking spaces in Little Venice. What’s going on in early summer 2022? “The water buffalo are already doing their job diligently and cavorting with the cranes, goats and Galloways on the Tiefwerder pastures,” local residents told me.

“There is a herd of wild boar, nice foxes, beavers and the like… and 5 baby swans have just hatched.” For a rough orientation: The idyll is located between Ikea, Havel and Heerstraße and is connected by a beautiful circular hiking trail, which also offers plenty of shade in the hot summer . If you need refreshments for the kids: there are fries on Heerstraße. And for the big ones: at the Freybrücke there are even fish sandwiches on the Havel.

The picture at the top was sent by the Tagesspiegel reader Bernd Schrimpe – look at the snout of the water buffalo! “Wonderful there, indeed,” he writes to the Spandau newsletter. “I then took a photo of the water buffalo that I would like to show you: A star dances on the nose of a resting water buffalo, which enjoys it very much seems. With best Spandau greetings to the Spandau newsletter, I’ve been a reader of this interesting news magazine since the beginning. Keep it up!”
