(Kyiv) The Ukrainian army said on Thursday that Russian troops had withdrawn from the town of Nova Kakhovka, located across the Dnieper River in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine.

“ On March 22, 2023 (Wednesday), all units of the occupation army deployed in the locality of Nova Kakhovka, in the Kherson region, left the city ”, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense said on Telegram.

The ministry, however, did not specify whether Ukrainian soldiers had taken over the premises.

This information was immediately unverifiable from an independent source.

Nova Kakhovka, which had 45,000 inhabitants before the war, is located northeast of Kherson, a city that the Russians abandoned in November 2022 to retreat to the other side of the Dnieper.

This city is also near the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam, taken by the Russians at the start of their offensive against Ukraine at the end of February 2022.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Thursday near the front in the Kherson region, partially occupied by Russia, which claimed its annexation in September 2022.
