The professional footballer Atakan Karazor from VfB Stuttgart, who was arrested around six weeks ago on the Spanish holiday island of Ibiza, is released from custody on bail. The Bundesliga soccer club and the district court of the Balearic Islands confirmed the relevant information from the “Bild” newspaper on Thursday. “That also corresponds to our knowledge,” said a VfB spokesman for the German Press Agency.
The “Stuttgarter Nachrichten” reported on Friday that Karazor “should be released this Friday between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.”.
As the district court of the Balearic Islands announced on Thursday, the deposit is 50,000 euros. The soccer professional, who is being investigated for the “alleged crime of sexual assault”, is now allowed to leave Spain.
However, he must remain available for the court that made the decision to release him and report regularly. In addition, he was not allowed to approach the alleged victim or communicate with him, it said.
According to the club in mid-June, Karazor was arrested in Ibiza. However, the 25-year-old denies any criminal act. So far, the Swabians have not wanted to say what Karazor is accused of. When asked by dpa, the police in Ibiza only wanted to confirm the arrest of two Germans. You would be accused of rape by a young Spanish woman.
The VfB has not yet had any personal contact with Karazor, the Stuttgart spokesman explained. But that will be done in a timely manner. Then the further procedure should be discussed with the lawyers of the 25-year-old midfielder.
