Rail traffic between Berlin and Hamburg is still restricted on Sunday due to a cable fire. As Deutsche Bahn reports on its website, the impairments are expected to last until the late afternoon.

The ICE trains between Hamburg and Berlin only run every hour. The EC trains from Hamburg via Berlin and Dresden to Prague start and end in Berlin. For all trains that have not failed, the Bahn app indicates an exceptionally high occupancy rate. The canceled trains can also be seen in the app.

Throughout Germany, other routes are affected by the impairments.

Because of the fire on the tracks in downtown Hamburg, only every second ICE between Hamburg and Berlin cities could drive on Friday morning. The Eurocity from Prague already ends in Berlin. This reduced the space available between the two cities to less than half.

It was not a politically motivated attack that damaged the cables, but a fire on the embankment of the tracks. The fire burned between Hamburg Altona and Hamburg Central Station – because of the chronic congestion in Hamburg Central Station, trains cannot turn there and return to Berlin. This is only possible in Altona. The trains are simply canceled.
