After officials determined that they had been illegally imported from China, three thousand pairs of false eyelashes were seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agents.

Matthew Dyman, spokesperson for the agency, stated that the four long lashes confiscated Tuesday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport were intended for a local beauty supply shop.

He said that they hadn’t been approved of the federal Food and Drug Administration and were not labeled with either the distributor’s or manufacturer’s names.

Dyman explained to The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate that there is no way to determine if the eyelashes were exposed to any disease or if they were properly stored.

NEW ORLEANS (AP), Three thousand false eyelashes were seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection after officials found they had been illegally imported from China to New Orleans.

He said, “There’s no telling what’s under these eyelashes.”

Dyman stated that false eyelashes can be made from synthetic materials and attached using adhesive. Unregulated or hazardous materials can cause allergic reactions, irritation, or worse.

The newspaper reported that no business or individual was cited.

False lashes that are not FDA-approved and unlabeled are frequently seized in New Orleans. However, officials stated that this shipment was “particularly big,” WVUE TV reported.
