A second man was arrested overnight from Saturday to Sunday in connection with the murder of young Youcef Khelil, which occurred in nebulous circumstances in Repentigny last March. Deemed “dangerous”, Alexandre Durand-Artiles, 20, was on the list of most wanted criminals in Quebec.

This was confirmed on Sunday morning by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), stating that the arrest of the young man was carried out in the Hochelaga sector, in Montreal, in concert with patrol officers from the Service de police de the City of Montreal (SPVM).

Alexandre Durand-Artiles had been actively sought by the authorities since the arrest on March 29 of the first suspect in this case, Raymond Félix Bakodok, a 21-year-old young man who already faces several charges, including murder in the first degree of Youcef Khelil.

In a statement, the SQ said Sunday that this second suspect, meanwhile, “should appear by telephone [Sunday] and in person [Monday] at the Joliette courthouse to face, among other things, charges of murder, kidnapping, forcible confinement and uttering threats”.

The young man had also been on the website of Quebec’s most wanted criminals, run by the SQ’s Criminal Information Center, for a few weeks already. His criminal record is also strong, with three files opened in Montreal, Laval and Joliette since 2021, according to the plumitif.

Recall that the victim, Youcef Khelil, was found on the ground on a Saturday morning around 4 a.m., last March, in Repentigny, on rue De Bernière. He was then seriously injured. A murder investigation then began once he was found dead.

Despite the two arrests made in this case, the investigation is still ongoing. Any relevant information may be communicated, confidentially, to the Criminal Information Center of the Sûreté du Québec at 1 800 659-4264.
