More than 10,000 investigations have already been initiated in Berlin on suspicion of fraud in Corona aid payments. This emerges from the response of the Senate to a written request from the CDU MP Alexander Herrmann, which is available to the German Press Agency.

According to the information provided by the judiciary, there were 2,399 procedures in 2020, and the number rose to 5,591 the following year.

So far in 2022, 2,312 procedures have been initiated in connection with corona aid applied for from the Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) and economic aid applied for via the Federal Ministry of Economics. According to the information, there were also a total of 21 procedures involving corona funding from the KfW Bank.

Around 8,800 other suspected cases have not yet been checked. The judiciary estimates the potential damage at around 146 million euros.
