A fire that started on the rear balcony on the 3rd floor of a residential building in the Rosemont district of Montreal required the intervention of approximately 70 firefighters late Sunday afternoon.

The flames quickly spread inside and to the attic of the building located on 3rd Avenue, between Masson and Dandurand streets.

But around 6 p.m., the fire was under control, although firefighters were still inspecting the structure, said Montreal Fire Department spokesman Robert Rousseau.

No injuries have been reported and authorities are still trying to locate the tenants and building owner since they were not on the scene when the incident occurred.

The Red Cross was still called in as reinforcements since some apartments could no longer be habitable for a certain period, said Robert Rousseau.

As many as 3,423 homes were left without power in the area due to this incident.
