Green Party leader Ricarda Lang has ruled out the continued use of nuclear power in Germany despite the decision by Economics Minister Robert Habeck to keep two German nuclear power plants in reserve operation.

“There will be no lifetime extension, no new fuel rods. We stand by the decision to phase out nuclear power,” Lang told the Süddeutsche Zeitung (Tuesday edition).

Habeck’s decision was “logical” because of the risk of hourly power outages identified in a stress test for the coming months. “In this situation, it would be wrong not to play it safe and just hope that the scenarios mentioned do not occur,” said Lang.
